Hello all,
We held our 2022 NSWS AGM on the 16th of October, and now have a new committee! I’d like to thank the outgoing committee, particularly Harry Nicol and Emma Robinson, for all their amazing work in 2022.
A big congratulations to the new NSWS Committee of 2023:
- Musical Director: Andrew McWade
- Band Manager: Eleanor Brimblecombe
- Treasurer: Louise Wilson
- Librarian: Morgan Lacey
- Secretary: Angus Hawken
- Personal Manager: Marcus Paxton
- Social Manager: Katrina Wu
- Marketing Officer: Britney Farrar
- General Committee: Raph Harvey, Amy Bowyer, Matilda Seppelt, Paige Gullifer, Hugo Fahey
We have had our first meeting with the new committee and have some exciting updates to share with you. A separate email will be sent out with the details for our last project of the year with ABODA on the 27th November.
End of year
Our end of year pub celebration will likely take place on the 11th of December, at the Blue Gum Hotel after rehearsal that day. We’d love to see everyone there to celebrate our 2022 success!
Nationals 2023
We are going to enter the National Band Championships in Newcastle in 2023! We all agreed that this would be a great opportunity to pull the band together and push for recruitment for next year. Registration for Nationals closes on the 16th of November, so we will be making sure our player lists are up to date in the coming weeks.
This decision will mean a couple changes to the end of 2022, including two extra rehearsals on the 4th and 11th of December.
Recruitment
We are looking at getting in contact with Barker alumni who have played with NSWS in previous years to help build numbers and strengthen our Old Barker Association connection. Our participation in Nationals next year is going to be very fun and we hope to honour our involvement with the OBA by showcasing their alumni’s musical skills in our ensemble.
We are also always looking for additional players to join our vibrant community. Players of varying skill members are more than welcome. Ask your friends if they’d like to come and join us! They can find more information about us on our website: https://www.northshorewindsymphony.com/
Band Survey
We’ve put together a quick survey about the band, rehearsals, and nationals. This will only take a few minutes to complete, and is very important to our success in 2023, so please complete the survey here
Membership Fees 2023
The treasurer’s report at the AGM highlighted the need to a small increase in membership fees from $100 per semester to $105 per semester. The fee has been the same, very low, amount for the last 6 years, and with all that’s going on in the world, it is necessary to update it. This slight increase will ensure the survival of our ensemble while we continue to apply for grants and support from other resources. Please reach out to anyone in the above committee if you have any concerns with the fee adjustment.
Thank you to everyone who continues to make music with North Shore Wind Symphony. It really is an ensemble to be proud of, and we’re looking forward to what’s to come!
If you have any questions, please reach out.
Kind regards,
Eleanor Brimblecombe – Band Manager
